Young women and civil society organizations under the Justice 4 Her (J4H) Campaign, with support from Equality Now, held a follow-up advocacy meeting with the National Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare to review the progress of the Anti-Gender-Based Violence (Anti-GBV) Bill.
The engagement focused on strengthening coordination and ensuring that the voices and lived experiences of women and girls remain central to the legislative process. Participants raised concern over the prolonged delay, as the Bill has remained under review at the Ministry of Justice for over two years, and emphasized the urgent need to fast-track its enactment.
During the meeting, young women highlighted the importance of the Anti-GBV Bill in improving protection systems, ensuring accountability for perpetrators, and empowering women and girls with knowledge of their rights. Practical strategies were discussed, including deeper engagement with the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and stronger collaboration with media actors to amplify advocacy efforts.
The meeting reaffirmed the value of partnerships between government, civil society, and young women, ending with a shared commitment to sustained advocacy and follow-up engagements to accelerate progress toward passing the Bill.
Together, we continue to push for stronger legal protections and a safer future for all women and girls in South Sudan.
