The Global Voices Organization (GVO), conducted a community engagement session at Goroyo II, bringing together male champions from Gudele and New site Goroyo II, community leaders, Police from Special Protection Unit, and local residents to strengthen efforts in preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) through positive masculinity and community-led action

The dialogue focused on challenging harmful gender norms, promoting respectful relationships, and encouraging men and boys to become advocates for non-violence and gender equality. Participants explored the role of men as community role models, emphasizing that true strength is demonstrated through respect, accountability, and the protection of women and girls. Discussions also highlighted the importance of men leading by example in addressing gender-based violence and creating safer communities for all. 

Speaking during the session, the Deputy Director of the Special Protection Unit (SPU), Lt. Col. Mila Eluzai, urged community members to report all cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence to the police without delay. He stressed that timely reporting is critical to ensuring survivors receive appropriate support, perpetrators are held accountable, and justice is served.

Participants also discussed the importance of community awareness, early prevention, and collective responsibility in addressing SGBV. Through interactive dialogue, participants were encouraged to challenge harmful cultural practices, promote gender equality, and utilize community platforms to raise awareness and foster positive social change.

The initiative forms part of GVO’s broader commitment to empowering communities with knowledge on SGBV prevention, strengthening referral pathways, and fostering safe, inclusive environments where survivors can access support and exercise their rights. The engagement also contributes to building a network of male champions who will continue advocating for positive masculinity and non-violence within their communities.
